The Finishing Trades Institute of West Virginia & Region

The Painters and Allied Trades Finishing Trades Institute of West Virginia and Region is located in Weston, West Virginia.

Our 96,000 square foot facility offers hands-on and classroom training for apprentices and journeymen and journeywomen.

Our training center is self-funded by IUPAT District Council 53 contractors and members.

Reinvestment into local skilled workers is what the Finishing Trades Institute is all about.

All training is offered at no cost to apprentices and journeymen. In fact, the apprenticeship program is earn while you learn. Apprentices earn an hourly wage for their on-the-job training.

The Finishing Trades Institute offers training and certification in the following apprenticeship programs:

  • Commercial Painting

  • Drywall Finishing

  • Industrial Coatings and Sandblasting

  • Vac Truck and Water Blasting

  • Glass and Metal Technicians

In a combination of hands-on and computer/classroom training, apprentices are required to complete a minimum of 480 hours of classroom and hands-on training and 6,000 hours of on-the-job training to be elevated to journeymen status.

Apprentices take training and apply their skills into actual projects around the jurisdiction all across West Virginia and the surrounding states.

The IUPAT & FTI re-invests into West Virginia’s workforce and serves the surrounding region. Apprentices will be working on schools, hospitals, office buildings, commercial buildings, bridges, tanks, water and wastewater plants, oil and gas facilities, and industrial plants.

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Trainees receive hands-on training in a skilled, drug free, and safe environment creating a trained workforce that is proficient, confident, and ready to construct the buildings of the future.
